Friends

Friends. Everyone has them and everyone needs them. They’re there with you through the good and bad times. We’re saying ‘Yay!’ to friendship!

Being Kind; when your best friend has forgotten you, now they’re in a relationship

By Lucinda.

I am in a big friendship group of girls and throughout our teens most of us have experienced being in love for the first time.

During relationships, especially your first real one, it’s hard to learn to balance your time between your boyfriend or girlfriend and your mates. You get caught up on a honeymoon period of excitement, longing to spend every moment with your other half. However, if you’re not careful, this can start to have a negative impact on all your friendships.

If you feel you are losing a friend to their relationship, you need to know, you are not alone and you won’t feel like this forever! I personally have felt this way, but I have also been the one to make my best friend have these feelings too.

The problem is, it’s not deliberate or nasty and it defo doesn’t mean they prefer their boyfriend or girlfriend to you!  Therefore, just be kind, getting angry or annoyed at them might not be the best way to handle the situation, as it may just push them further away.

Be kind, be patient and depending on which friend you’re talking to, either tell your friend how they are making you feel with their actions or if you prefer just wait it out until she gets it out her system and learns to balance her time better. This is all you can do and even though things may not change immediately, trust me, slowly your friend will realise they have been a bit rubbish.

Remember – Don’t get angry. Stay cool, calm and collected because you never know when it will be your turn to peer through those love goggles!
