Katy B on how to be different
So in life there’s often times when your mates are all doing something but you’re not sure you wanna join in… Like, everyone’s smoking at a party or maybe you have friends taking drugs and you’re not sure what to do (what is MDMA anyway?)
Katy B has made this Speakerbox video for the 4:01 Show talking about her experience of wondering how to fit in when she was at school. She learned that doing things her own way was less scary than she thought – and its helped her to become the artist she is because now she follows her instincts every day. Choosing her outfits, how she wants her music to sound – these are decisions that define her as an artist, and they’ve been successful because she’s doing her own thing and loving it. It’s deep, but you only get one life so you gotta make sure you live it your way, no-one else’s.
Watch the video for more of Katy’s advice, and remember that just because everyone says they’re doing something, it doesn’t mean you have to as well. That goes for drinking at a party or something more serious like sexual peer pressure – as in, everyone’s having sex so should I have sex for the first time soon? Just be calm, and follow your own path. Life is way more fun when you’re doing things your way – no matter how what that way is.
