Bodytalk

Our bodies are a confusing thing no matter if you’re boy or girl shaped! Find out what’s going on during puberty.

Jimmy from the 4:01 Show tackles an important subject in this video, as he chats to the fabulous musicalbethan about body confidence: how to feel better about your body, and the difficulties that everyone faces with their appearance. And we mean everyone! We are all guilty of looking in the mirror and thinking “I hate my body!” and giving ourselves a hard time – the trick is learning how to love yourself.

One quick way to start feeling more positive about your body is – you guessed it! – eating more healthily and exercising regularly. Hooray! Fruit and press-ups! Seriously though – you are what you eat, so making sure you eat plenty of fresh food means you’ll soon start feeling fresh and looking fresh, while you don’t need us to tell you that exercise is good for your body. Basically – you’ve got to take care of your body, and yourself. Remember, you see your body every day and know your own body insecurities, so you’re less likely to notice any positive changes and more likely to see the things you don’t like. Other people, though, don’t see you every day – and, just like you notice other people’s great hair, or complexion, people are doing that right back to you. You just don’t know it!

Also, without sounding completely patronising these things get better with age. Kids can be so cruel! Young people can get nervous or uncomfortable when their bodies start changing, and those nerves can then make them lash out. You’ve just gotta ignore the haters, ‘cos you don’t have to deal with their bad energy. For some positive re-eenforcement, check out the short vlogs at the end of this video, where some awesome young people share their their opinions on body confidence (beware those unrealistically perfect celebrities!). Cheesy sentiment time! Everyone is beautiful and everyone is different – and those differences are why everyone is beautiful (this includes you!).
