Thatcher Joe on smoking, drinking & drugs
At some point in our lives we all get offered cigarettes, drink and drugs (not all at the same time – that would be intense!). It’s kind of inevitable, and it’s really difficult to know what to say, so here’s what Joe Suggs – and his friend Caspar – have to say about dealing with the question.
They both admit they were kind of lucky because when they were offered to smoke they were either in the right circles – like hanging with the sporty kids who wouldn’t smoke as it affects their health – or they just felt confident enough to say “no”. But it’s not that easy to face down smoking peer pressure. The thing to remember is to just be yourself, and think carefully about what you want to do, then stick to it. Being self-confident is so cool – it just is – and if you give your answer confidently you won’t lose face. This goes for first time drinking or friends taking drugs too.
It’s important to follow what you feel is best. You’ll be asked again and again and *rolls eyes* again throughout your life, but when you know in yourself what’s good for you, you’ll find it way easier to give the right answer.
